Are You Ready? New Disaster Readiness Rule From CMS Impacts Nursing Homes, Hospitals and Home Health Agencies

“Planning for the protection and care of patients, clients, residents, and staff during an emergency or disaster is a good business practice” states the new rule issued by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid early this Autumn.

Aimed to prevent the kind of severe breakdown in patient care that followed disasters like Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, while strengthening the ability to provide services during other types of emergencies such as pandemics and terror attacks, the new rule applies to nursing homes, hospitals and home health agencies.

With a little over a year to meet the federal disaster preparedness requirements, the rule “will make it more likely that facilities will be able to stay open and able to care for patients …” indicates Dr. Nicole Lurie, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at the Department of Health and Human Services.

You can rely on the marketing experts at AdLib to create clear and effective communications for the various administration levels at your facility, as well as proactive platforms for web and social media in case of emergency.
